H2O

So I know we have been told to drink water all our lives but I want to rant about it again. You must drink water!!!! Water makes up about 60% of our mass. Staying hydrated is so key to weight loss.

I was taught that most cravings come from thirst and not hunger. If you stay on the water, who knows how many cravings you could avoid that you otherwise would have indulged in. Does that mean your cravings will disappear? No, there are still so many factors that lead us to crave things - habits, advertisements, thoughts, smells, boredom ... However, this will be one less factor on the list.

Water also helps cleanse your organs that are vital to weight loss. With clean organs, you can function and metabolize much more efficiently. I promise, if you want to lose weight, you want to do anything possible to speed up your metabolism. Also, while I am on the note of organs, you should add lemons to your water to make it more exciting to drink AAANNNNDDD to further assist in cleansing your organs. Drinking water should be a no-brainer because it is something you get to add to your habits, instead of something you have to break. See the positive in everything!!!

Lastly, drinking water will satisfy your desire to “do something.” I gave up alcohol for a month just to see what it would do for my weight loss efforts. (I will tell you more about that at another time … it was amazing how much weight I lost.) However, right now I just want to convince you to drink water. So I gave up alcohol and was not sure what to do at my first party I attended. So every time a friend would take a drink and grab another beer, I did this with water. By the night's end, I had consumed 60 ounces of water at this one party alone. I was peeing like crazy. The next day I felt amazing. That was one of the days I truly fell in love with drinking water. Also, consider if the amount of water I had consumed had been alcohol. That would have been an additional 500-700 calories just at the party alone …. I am just saying folks!!!!!

It is something to think about. Start here:

8 cups a day = 64oz

For every 30 minutes you work out, add two cups for that day!

If at a party and want to make it fun, use mineral water with limes - it will make you think your are drinking something naughty :)

Good luck friends.

  1. James,

So I'm curious to know if there is a philosophy behind the location where you run? I have been running around my neighborhood and feel like those runs are not as good as my runs where I actually drive to the lake and run on an actual running trail. Is it mainly the scenery that adds to my run or does it also have something to do with the actual path I'm running on. The lake is nice and smooth where the neighborhood is sometimes uneven and the sidewalk will end and then pick up again so I have to mentally pay attention to the terrain. Could having to pay attention to my surroundings add strain to my run and make me burn out quicker?
